Measurement of dimensions of your body or shirt can be really tricky, if not executed properly. There’s nothing to worry! Everyone of us have been through this sort of inconvenience, and so we are sharing with you the techniques necessary to measure accurately, like a professional tailor! All you need to do is to follow these simple steps, and you will sail through it just fine. You will require the following for successfully completing the process of measurement:
- A measuring tape, that should be kept loose while taking measurements. Please remember that tension in the tape means your measurements will be short of the ideal one.
- A piece of paper and a pen/pencil, for noting down the measurements. Kindly mention whether the measurement is in centimeters or inches.
- A person who will assist you in taking measurements.
Body measurement
Neck
Wrap the measuring tape around the neck and place it firmly but not tightly at the base of the neck. Now measure the circumference of your neck as shown in figure. For keeping some room, you may place a finger in between the tape and your neck.
Chest
Keep your posture relaxed, don’t inflate your chest and measure the circumference around the widest portion of your chest, as shown in figure.
Waist measurement
Wrap the measuring tape around your waist firmly but not tightly. Now measure the circumference of your waist as shown in figure.
Hips measurement
Wrap the measuring tape around your seat, i.e, the biggest circumference around your buttocks, as shown in figure.
Shoulder length Hips measurement
Imagine a line up from your armpit straight towards your shoulder. Measure between those two points by holding the tape straight.
Sleeve length
Keep your arms relaxed, put the measuring tape at the junction of your arm and shoulder, and measure up to the knuckle of your middle finger. In case you want a half sleeve measurement, measure up to the portion of the arm where you want to end your sleeve, as shown in figure.
Wrist check
Wrap the measuring tape around the wrist and place it firmly but not tightly at the base of the wrist. Now measure the circumference of your wrist as shown in figure. For keeping some room, you may place a finger in between the tape and your wrist.
Bicep Measurement
Keep your muscles relaxed and measure the circumference of the widest part of your upper arm, as shown in figure.
Shirt length
Position the measuring tape vertically and place it firmly on the shoulders. Now measure the straight vertical length up to the end of your shirt, as shown in figure.
